Dawn Dickson will share how women have been active participants at birth and death for centuries, yet we often experience disconnection and spiritual impoverishment when faced with death. In this workshop we will reclaim our place as midwives to the dying. Rituals and exercises throughout the presentation will offer examples for end of life care. Emily Dykstra and Cathy Sims offer a unique opportunity exploring the layers of our lives through fiber-art, yoga and song. They fuse together layers of fiber (fabric, yarn, found objects and mementos) to build a vibrant expression of your heart’s desires and your true self. Using this multi-media approach allows for a tactile experience of ripping, shredding, moving, singing and cherishing the precious, giving a deeper understanding of who they are in this world.

In 'paying it forward,' woman finds way to inspire others

This is "What Women Want" — and no, it doesn't involve Mel Gibson. "What Women Want" is a brand new, twice-monthly inspirational talk at Waterstreet Café at Battleship Cove. It features prominent women business owners, writers and other speakers who aim to inspire their fellow working women. "I wanted to bring in women speakers to boost other women in our community. Working women who have families feel spread thin these days. They wonder if they're doing the best they can. I know, because I'm one of them," said Janine Ouellette Sullivan, who started the series.
