Finding Joy in Everyday Life

Finding Joy in Everyday Life

We all strive to find happiness & joy, but can get bogged down with the day-to-day. How do we find ways to appreciate the little things?

Joy - by definition means "a feeling of great pleasure or happiness". How many of us can say we truly find joy each day? We live in a fast-paced world where we are moving from one thing to the next. We are highly driven and working hard to achieve our goals. So what does it take to step back and find a little bit of joy each day?

finding joy

I know that Dr. Pat Baccili, owner and founder of The Transformation Radio Network does this on a daily basis. I've learned to do it because of watching her. Even in the busiest part of a day, she has just finished a live radio show, the phone is ringing off the hook, there is some technical "emergency" her team is trying to notifiy her about, and she is prepping for her next coaching call while trying to scarf down a salad for lunch... She will walk into my office and say, "you know what I am grateful for today?" followed by some statement about something she found, learned, or resonated with so far that day that brought her joy.

The Dr. Pat Show

She never fails to opperate from a place of Gratitude, which leads to finding joy in even small moments. What does it take to opperate from a place of gratitude? It starts by asking questions, a technique that she learned from one of our co-hosts Dr. Glenna Rice. When faced with a challenge she has coached us to ask "What else is possible?". When you ask that question you instantly move into a place of possibilities rather than issues & problems. That is how we opperate at our network.

I am writing this because I had an experience this weekend while sitting in the sun soaking in some amazing bluegrass music at the Darrington Bluegrass Festival (outside of Seattle Washington) and was almost in tears not because I was upset, but because I was so completely immersed in joy in that moment. I couldn't imagine anything being better than the feeling I had right then and there. I wanted to share this story and post because I want to encourage everyone to seek out things that bring you joy. Don't let the busy day-to-day take away from the absolute beauty in this life.

My best friend came to visit a few weeks ago and reminded me of the simple saying: "Take the trip, buy the shoes, eat the cake." She did exactly that while she was here and we had an amazing time. Life is about balance, and as a libra I am ALWAYS seeking that balance.

What are you going to do today, tomorrow, this week, etc... to find some joy? What else is possible?
